Whitman Farm

David Whitman started working with hogs when he was 14 years old, and he’s been at it ever since. On a 35-acre farm that has been in his family for over 60 years, he rotates his hogs through a series of pastures and woodlots that give them plenty of room to forage and root.

 In fields where he used to grow tobacco and cucumbers, David now plants non-GMO soybeans and corn to make his own hog feed. He pulls some of his fields out of rotation each year to rest, planting them with millet, rye, and wheat. An innovator at heart, he is constantly experimenting with improvements to everything from his farrowing huts to his pasture rotations to make sure that his hogs are as healthy and happy as possible. David lives at the farm with his wife Sherri. His dog, CJ, is his constant companion on his daily rounds.
